I always thought of myself as a genuine, sweet, pretty, cool person. So why would I ever need self-love? I almost thought I'm a bit too cocky. Well, let me tell you sometimes you can get something handed to you that seems too good to be true. You have to really love yourself to be able to receive the blessings. I grew up in Oklahoma where the culture says you work hard and then are rewarded for the sacrifice and hard work. Somewhere along the line so many people (including myself) get lost in the struggle. They fall in love with the martyrdom associated with sacrifice. You don't have to sacrifice in order to thrive. You don't have to be a masochist to be worthy of whole and complete gifts from the universe. The best way to prepare yourself for blessings is to practice self-love. The nurturer in me loves to take care of everyone else, but sometimes when you just focus on yourself you can be a better caregiver. You become less reactive to what others say, what others do, what anything the outside world tries to throw at you. So ways to love yourself...well do what makes you happy. Sleep, eat well, workout, eliminate waste, eliminate stress. Everyone is different so I won't tell you specific ways to be healthier and happier...but the self-love happens when you invest time and energy in finding and nurturing those things.
